Mustafizur against Mumbai Indians

Bangladesh pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman is  likely to be back in the playing eleven for defending Indian Premier League champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in their match against Mumbai Indians.

The Sunrisers will take on Mumbai Indians on Wednesday evening.

The Sunrisers’ coach Tom Moody confirmed the 21-year-old pacer's availability for the game, hinting at his inclusion in the playing eleven.

"He is available and is arriving this evening. Who he'll replace might be decided tomorrow. But it's more than likely that he will be fit and available unless something happens overnight. But yeah, he's in our consideration for the final eleven," Moody said, on the eve of SRH's next game.

The lanky pacer also confirmed his joining the squad through a Facebook post ahead of Wednesday's tie.

"Off to India, Mission IPL #OrangeArmy," he posted.

Mustafizur played 16 games in Sunrisers' title-winning campaign of 2016, but broke down soon after with a shoulder injury while representing Sussex in the English County Championship, forcing him to undergo surgery in August.

He was then included for Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand tour in December-January. He played two ODI and two T20Is, but was ruled out of the Tests due to a hamstring niggle.

He, however regained full fitness during the Sri Lanka tour, where Bangladesh played two Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is.

The Sunrisers have so far played two games in this year's IPL and are aiming their third win on the trot at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

Mashrafe left T20I captaincy, not the format

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has announced his retirement from Twenty20 International in front of millions of fans, written about it on his official Facebook page, but BCB President Nazmul Hassan insists that he has not signed off from the format.

Having provided Mashrafe a delightful T20I swansong by outclassing Sri Lanka on Thursday to level the series 1-1, the Tigers returned to the country on Friday.

Hassan had, however, made similar claims in Colombo before the second 20-over game. He reiterated it on Friday.

“I keep repeating the same thing, Mashrafe has not yet left T20s. We have not yet told Mashrafe that he is not in the T20 squad. He stepped down from captaincy,” Hassan said on his return.

“We [want] three captains, one for each format. I’ve said that a long time ago. He’ll play if he is fit. But if he does not want to play when we need him, will we let him go?”

Mashrafe's retirement  from the shortest format took his fans and followers by surprise, something the Bangladesh Cricket Board cannot find a reason for.

“Apart from Bangladesh, no-one saw any news about who stepped down from T20 captaincy [from other teams]. I’m seeing this only in Bangladesh. Other countries talk about one-day, Tests, not T20s,” the board chief added.

He, however, believes Mashrafe feeling down about this is quite justified.

“Because he is a player. Not just a player, he has been leading the team. Besides, retirement from the game can be depressing, it’s not unnatural. I would feel the same.”

Hassan claims when Mashrafe was handed the leadership, he was unlikely to break into the team.

“When he was made captain for the T20 and one-day teams, he was not even in the squad. He was then recovering from an injury.

“There was obviously something special in consideration when he was made [captain]. He successfully completed the role, we are also very proud of him for that," added Hassan in a bizarre assertion.

The strapping pacer was Bangladesh’s second highest wicket-taker in the series against the West Indies before he was handed captaincy. He had also bowled brilliantly against India in the series before that.

The year 2014 was disastrous for Bangladesh cricket. The team had been through their worst losing streak in three years with the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand approaching.

Mashrafe was put at the helm in November to salvage fortunes. The pacer, who plays wearing braces to protect his knees, later said in interviews that he was not mentally prepared for the challenging task.

But he stayed focussed on the team’s needs and heeded his father’s advice to take over.

Miraz called up for CPL stint

Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been drafted by the Trinbago Knight Riders of the Caribbean Premier League as the Bangladesh youngster continues making headway in world cricket rapidly.

The prodigious 19-year-old allrounder will play for the team, based in Port of Spain at Trinidad and Tobago, as a replacement for Australia’s Brad Hodge.

With the CPL set to begin around August, the schedule is likely to clash with the timings of his national duties if Bangladesh host Pakistan in that time. In that case, he may miss several matches of the domestic Twenty20 competition in the West Indies.

Miraz, who has signed up for the Mohammedan for this season’s Dhaka Premier League, is excited over the prospect of playing for an overseas franchise.

"I am really happy to have got this opportunity," espncricinfo.com quoted Mehedi as saying on Tuesday.

"I will get to play with really good cricketers in that tournament. It will improve my standard of cricket."

Miraz walks in the footsteps of Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal as the third Bangladesh cricketer to join the CPL.

He burst into the scene with a 19-wicket haul in the two-match Test series against England, including a six-wicket haul on debut, in October last year. Miraz was then handed ODI and T20I caps in the Tigers latest tour of Sri Lanka.

The wily right-arm offspinner, who can also bat, bagged 15 wickets in 12 matches for the Rajshahi Kings in the last Bangladesh Premier League.

He played for the Kalabagan Cricket Academy in the last two seasons of Dhaka Premier League.

No balls, wides reign as Bangladesh bowler protests umpiring

A Bangladesh club cricketer peppered the field with no balls and wides to concede 92 runs in four legal deliveries in an extraordinary protest against poor umpiring in the Dhaka Second Division Cricket League, local media reported on Wednesday.

Lalmatia Club's Sujon Mahmud bowled 15 no balls to go with 13 wides that also raced to the boundary in his side's match against Axiom Cricketers.

His four legal deliveries went for 12 runs as Axiom won by 10 wickets.

Lalmatia had been dismissed for 88 after being put into bat with the team unimpressed at several umpiring decisions that went against them in the match on Tuesday.

"It started at the toss," Lalmatia general secretary Adnan Rahman Dipon told the Dhaka Tribune.

"My captain was not allowed to see the coin and we were sent to bat first and ... the umpires' decisions went against us."

The tournament has been plagued by umpiring controversy and Fear Fighters Sporting Club's Tasnim Hasan did something similar on Monday, conceding 69 runs in seven legitimate deliveries to protest against the umpiring.

Morgan signs up for South African T20 tournament

England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan has been unveiled as one of eight "marquee" players for South Africa’s new domestic Twenty20 competition to be played in November and December this year.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday that Morgan has signed up for the first two seasons of the tournament, along with two South African-born past and present England internationals, Kevin Pietersen and Jason Roy.

A trio of leading West Indies limited overs players, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, will also feature, as well as ex-New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum and Sri Lanka seamer Lasith Malinga.

The eight will be distributed among the as yet unnamed teams via a draft system similar to that in the Indian Premier League. Each team will have 17 players in their squad, with a maximum of four from outside of South Africa.

CSA are inviting interest from prospective team owners with the deadline for submissions April 28.

Overseas players are also able to register their desire to join the draft, with the competition set to go head-to-head with the troubled Bangladesh Premier League and Dec. 16 pencilled in for the final.

“We are thrilled with the responses we are receiving from prospective team owners. No doubt this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for both bidder and city,” CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat said in a statement.

“While the level of private investment we expect will be new to South African sport, we are also very interested in the level of expertise that owners will bring to all levels of the game in South Africa.”

There are 11 prospective venues open to the eight competing teams, with the sought-after stadiums in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Durban to go to the highest bidders.

“The eventual location of these franchises will be up to the bidders and the cities who see the opportunities to generate brand value and economic activity through the league,” Lorgat said.

Umpires can eject players, tethered bails approved

Cricket umpires have been given the power to eject disobedient players while tethered bails will be permitted to protect wicketkeepers from eye injuries as part of a series of law changes coming into effect from Oct 1.

The new 'Players conduct' rule will allow on-field officials to remove a misbehaving competitor temporarily or permanently and award five penalty runs to the opposition, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has said.

If a captain refuses to remove his offending player, the umpire can award the match to the opposition. If both captains refuse to comply, the contest can be abandoned.

The MCC, the custodians of the game's laws, also merged "handled the ball" offence with "obstructing the field", thus reducing the number of possible dismissals from 10 to nine.

It also ratified the proposal of tethered bails to protect wicketkeepers from the type of injuries that ended South African Mark Boucher's career in 2012.

Boucher was hit in the eye by flying bails in a tour match in England, which forced him into retirement.

"Law 8.4 has been changed, to help prevent injuries, to allow specially designed mechanisms which tether the bails to the stumps, thereby restricting the distance that they can fly off the stumps but without limiting their ability to be dislodged," the MCC said.

The MCC also approved bat restrictions and allowed substitutes to keep wicket.

captain Kohli fit to play in IPL

India captain Virat Kohli has recovered from his shoulder injury and is fit to play in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the country's cricket board (BCCI) said on Thursday.

Kohli missed the franchise's first three matches as he underwent rehabilitation after injuring his right shoulder while fielding during the third Test against Australia at Ranchi.

The injury forced him to miss India's series-sealing final Test win over Australia in Dharamsala but the BCCI said on Thursday the 28-year-old has regained match fitness.

"He will now be available for RCB's next match against Mumbai Indians on April 14 in Bengaluru," the board said in a statement.

"The Indian captain had undergone rehabilitation after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder and has now recovered to be able to participate in IPL 2017."

Kohli's side, who have lost Australia paceman Mitchell Starc and India opener Lokesh Rahul to injuries, have lost two of their three matches in the April 5-May 21 tournament.

Australian Tye ends long IPL wait with dazzling debut

Andrew Tye was a frustrated bystander for his first two seasons in the Indian Premier League but the Australia paceman grabbed his chance when it came on Friday, taking five wickets including a hat-trick to set up a first win for the Gujarat Lions.

The 30-year-old Twenty20 specialist was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in 2015 and was then picked up by Gujarat in 2016 but spent both editions sitting in the dugout waiting for his maiden opportunity in the cash-rich tournament.

It finally arrived in the winless Lions' home game at Rajkot against the Rising Pune Supergiant, who are led by Australia captain Steve Smith.

Tye finished with match-winning figures of 5-17 as his side registered their first points of the 2017 season with a comprehensive seven-wicket win in their third match.

"I think it was 34 matches now to get my first IPL game. The way it came out today, it couldn't have been any better," Tye told the tournament website.

"We went out there with a certain attitude. We had to be energetic. We had to get things done."

Tye struck in his first over, the sixth of the innings, to dismiss Rahul Tripathi and break a flourishing 64-run stand for the second wicket between the opener and Smith.

He then picked up the big wicket of England all-rounder Ben Stokes with the first ball of his second over.

Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary and Shardul Thakur were out on the first three deliveries in the final over of the innings from Tye as Pune were restricted to 171-8. Gujarat chased down the target with two overs to spare.

Tye said he never ran out of patience while waiting to make his mark.

"Finally, this morning our coach Hodgy (Brad Hodge) told me 'Get set to play. You're definitely playing,'" Tye added. "To get a wicket in the first over settled me down.

"I came here with nothing to lose. When you've waited that long for a chance, you got to take it. I was happy the way I came out and performed tonight.

"Even if you are not playing, India is a great place to develop your game and learn from the best players in the world. Playing with the international players and the Indian players, my cricket has really come on."

Maharaj gets first ODI call up

Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj got a first-ever One Day International call-up when he was named on Wednesday to South Africa’s 15-man squad for three matches against England next month, followed by the Champions Trophy.

Maharaj, who helped South Africa to test success in New Zealand last month, bolsters the spin options alongside Imran Tahir for the ODIs against England. Their first group match of the Champions Trophy will come on June 3 against Sri Lanka at the Oval.

Cricket South Africa convener Linda Zondi said the selectors have picked a strong squad that covered all the combinations and conditions on offer for the eighth edition of the eight-team event.

"We have been working with this group of players for the last two seasons where our key emphasis has been consistency in selection," he said in media statement.

"That has shown in how this group has performed over the last while, which has resulted in winning three consecutive ODI series."

The squad will leave for England on May 16 and will begin their preparations with two 50-over tour matches against Sussex and Northamptonshire.

Squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, JP Duminy, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir.

Lynn in Australia's Champions Trophy squad

Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc and batsman Chris Lynn have been named as part of a formidable squad for next month's Champions Trophy in England and Wales despite nursing injuries.

Starc was forced to pull out midway through the India tour last month with a fractured foot while Lynn has been sidelined with a shoulder injury during the Indian Premier League.

Both are expected to be fit for Australia's opener on June 2 against New Zealand.

"Our medical staff will continue to monitor Mitchell and Chris’s recovery from their respective injuries but we are hopeful they will be fit in time for the team’s departure on May 18,” selector Trevor Hohns said in a media release.

James Faulkner, man-of-the-match in the 2015 World Cup final against New Zealand, has been omitted from the 15-man squad named on Thursday, with selectors opting for all-rounders Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.

Young fast bowler Pat Cummins and James Pattinson, on the comeback trail after suffering stress fractures in his back, were included in an imposing pace battery along with Josh Hazlewood and John Hastings.

"Both James and John have made very good returns from injury and are bowling well for their respective teams in the English county competition as well as both contributing well with the bat," Hohns said.

"When you also add Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins to the fast bowling artillery it becomes a very exciting proposition for Australian cricket."

Legspinner Adam Zampa is the sole specialist spinner in the squad, while batsmen Usman Khawaja, George Bailey and Peter Handscomb have missed out.

World champions Australia, who lost their top ranking to South Africa earlier this year, will bid for their third win in the quadrennial one-day international tournament after back-to-back triumphs in 2006 and 2009.

Squad:

Steve Smith (captain), David Warner, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa

He, however, has been left out of the squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy which will be held in June this year.

Paceman Shafiul Islam has been roped into both the squad while Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury was dropped.
